Obituary of Janice Yvonne Mitchell

Janice was born on July 23, 1938 in Port Hope Simpson, Labrador to Fraser and Rachel Blake. She married Harvey "Brud" Mitchell on November 21, 1960 and together they raised four children. She is predeceased by her parents Rachel and Fraser Blake, Husband Harvey "Brud", brothers Angus and Glosson, sisters Ruby, Daisy, and Cavell. Janice started her career has a young nurses aid at the NDBMH and worked there until 1973 when she had her last child. Later in life she started working at the Anchor Inn Motel cooking and cleaning. She ended her working career as a home care worker which she thoroughly enjoyed. Janice was also devoted to the Red Cross and was a volunteer for over fifty years. Janice enjoyed many hobbies such as reading, knitting, sewing, bird watching, and fishing. She was a trophy winning dart player and loved her bingo. Janice leaves to mourn her four children; sons: Danny (Sherry), Glenn (Paula), Lee (Michelle), daughter Jo-Ann; grandchildren: Andrew, Sarah, Kathryn, Blake, Daniel, Joelle, Chloe, Bridgette; great grandchildren: Owen, Adaline, Briella, Theo; siblings: Inez(Maxwell), Irene, Shirley (Albert), Marie (Everett); and many special nieces, nephews, and friends. At this time the health and safety of our families and our community continues to be our highest priority. A public visitation will take place from Isles Funeral Home, Twillingate on Monday, February 28, 2022 from 7-9pm. The funeral service will be held at the Salvation Army Citadel, Twillingate on Tuesday, March 1, 2022 at 1pm. Flowers gratefully accepted or donations in Janice’s memory may be given to the Alzheimer’s society. At this time, due to government regulations proof of vaccination will be required for both visitation and funeral.
